What is data mining

Data mining is an interdisciplinary subfield of artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics and so on which involves discovering patterns in large data sets.

The goal of the data mining process is to extract information and hidden patters from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure .

These hidden patterns are summary of the input data which can be used in further predictive analysis or data analysis.

Some common tasks in Data mining are:

1.Anomaly detection (Outlier detection)

2.Association rule learning –Using association rule learning, the supermarket can determine which products are frequently bought together. This is also known as market basket analysis.

3.Clustering – Finding groups based on similarity of observations

4.Classification – Used in Predictive analytics like binary classification.
